KSHE Klassics Show, March 26, 2016

Quotation du jour ~ Sheryl Crow: I'm standing in the middle of the desert, waiting for my ship to come in. (From the song "Leaving Las Vegas.")

Welcome to my weekly tale of computer problems and, incidentally, the playlist on this Sunday's edition of the best radio program i know of, the Sunday Klassics Show on KSHE95.

But, praise be, i had no computer woes. I was able to connect to my VPN with no difficulty at all, my Internet connection remained solid all morning, and i wasn't troubled with any netio.sys failures (and the resultant Blue Screen Of Death). I must live right.

The KSHE Klassics Program, March 19th, 2017

Quotation du jour: Charlie Watts ~ Rock and roll has probably given more than it's taken.

I don't know why i have so many computer problems on Sunday mornings. I rarely have trouble connecting to the Internet or to my VPN on any other day of the week, and Sundays are usually the only day the system crashes and i get the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death -- with the same error message each time: System Service Exception: netio.sys. Some Googling (or in my case, DuckDuckGoing) suggests that this is either a driver problem or a registry one, so i ran a driver updater and a registry cleaner, to no avail.

But i was up fairly early on Sunday, i was able to sort it all out before the program began (which involved mainly re-booting ... three times! ... and resetting the modem and the router. And then the listening experience went seamlessly.

And, for a nice change, my listening experience went pretty smoothly. I had no Internet connection problems, and apart from a bit of bother connecting to my VPN at first, all went well after that.

Sending Flowers

I have two friends in Toronto, a married couple called Paul and Imogen, people i've known for forty years. I've stayed with them a few times over the years when i've visited Hogtown and they are wonderful, eccentric and highly-evolved, and both very dear to me.

Anyway, the thing is, it's Imogen's 70th birthday next week and there's a big beano being held for her on Saturday which, unfortunately, i won't be able to attend. So i decided to send her some flowers.

I haven't sent flowers to anyone since i've lived in this small Southwestern Ontario town, and i didn't know where to begin. There simply aren't many florists here and those i tried either couldn't or wouldn't. I Googled Interflora, but they don't seem to have a Canadian branch. (I couldn't find one, anyway,,,,)

At a bit of a loss to know what to do, i asked Roxanne at work – cos she's a girl and should know about flowers and schtuff – and she told me that the floral department at the local supermarket can do it for me. Eureka!

Or so i thought. But they don't do out of town deliveries. But at least the man made a constructive suggestion: order online at https://www.tidysflowers.com/

So i did. It was a pretty tedious process as i don't have an account with them – why would i? -- but i finally arranged everything and was on the verge of hitting “place order now” when didn't the @%$!*&$ laptop crash! Argh, fuck me blind, why me, etc.

So i had to start all over again. Which i did, submitted to the tedious process all over again, and actually managed to place the order: $107 worth of anthuriums (anthuria?). Yikes! Flowers are expensive!

And then Victor, from Tidy's Flowers 'phoned me. They would like to have Imogen's telephone number in case of any difficulties. Why is my life so difficult? I know i have the number here somewhere but it's tricky when, with my shambolic file system, virtually everything's under M for Miscellaneous. I couldn't find it.... Eventually i messaged a mutual friend, got the number, and called Tidy's, so now all should be good.

Enjoy the ease of online ordering, they say. It's fun, they say. I need a drink.

KSHE Klassics Show, March 5th, 2017

Quotation du jour: Thomas Jefferson ~ He who knows nothing is closer to the truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.

Unfortunately, this is not the complete playlist. There were a couple of songs (maybe three) that i didn't recognise. This happens quite often -- some of what Uman plays is pretty obscure -- but usually it's not a problem: KSHE lists what they've played recently on their website. But today when i checked, i found that they hadn't updated since 1:30 a.m.

Otherwise it was as good as always and, remarkably, the listening experience was as smooth as could be. My Internet connection was solid throughout and i had no difficulty whatever establishing a connection to my VPN. Rock on!

(Just an aside about the probs i've had with connecting to my VPN, which have been chronic lately. The other program i listen to on KSHE is The Rock Magazine, which is hosted by my Facebook friend Tommy T., and which is an hour-long mini-version of the Sunday Klassics show. It comes on at 4 a.m. [my time] every weekday morning and i'm usually up early enough to listen to most if not all of it. One morning last week, i was up half an hour before the show was to begin and i still hadn't established a connection, so, rather than saying “what the hell is wrong with this thing???” over and over, i went into Task Manager, discovered a compatibility setting that needed to be changed et voila! I was able to connect immediately. It's easy when you know what to do.) (Which doesn't describe me, btw!)
