Just curious. What do you think of your beloved adopted city these days? Your condo overlooking the river is now overlooking thousands of blacks protesting the oppression and racism that has been rampant in St. Louis for decades. This is the real St. Louis. Still love it?

Yes, i do still love it. I wish i'd grown up there. It's a beautiful city and almost everyone i met there was extraordinarily friendly. I confess i had no idea that the racial divide still even existed any more (naive of me, i know) until the shooting of Michael Brown three years ago. I read about that extensively and it came as a shock. The racial divide is too much a part of American history -- like their love of guns -- to be easily eradicated. In my dreamland, though, where i would be -- overlooking the river -- is a long way from where the violence is taking place: those parts of "downtown" are a fair distance west, south-west and north-west. And i think the protests are justified, although not the violence and vandalism. I think that Jason Stockley was guilty. The judge admitted that it had been a very difficult call, but that, ultimately, the charge was "not proven."
