KSHE Klassics Show, February 26th, 2017

Quotation du jour ~ Abraham Lincoln: If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?

Man, i love Sundays.

Not only because it's my only day off, but this program lifts my heart and eases my soul. What a shame i usually have so many computer problems on Sundays. I was able to connect to the VPN fairly easily this morning but then something caused a problem with ye olde laptop: netio.sys (whatever that is) shut me down. Twice. (It's some sort of NVIDIA driver conflict, i believe, although i haven't investigated much further.)

The second time i got the dreaded BSOD, i could no longer connect to the VPN at all and in fact wound up listening to the last 45 minutes of the program on my iPad (with earbuds, of course). And it was great. As always.

KSHE Klassics Show, February 19th, 2017

Quotation du jour ~ Dan Fogelberg: There's a magic every moment / There's a miracle each day /There's a magic every moment / Oh won't you let the music play.

As i've mentioned previously, KSHE doesn't stream their audio to Canada and in order to listen i have to connect to a VPN, and some weeks i have a very difficult job connecting. This week, i did some research. My firewall and AV software weren't hindering it, but i found a couple of settings under Control Panel => Administrative Tools that i changed (remote access options) and i had no trouble at all. And i'm ever so glad i spent some time on the problem: this morning's show was absolutely wonderful! (In fact, I ordered an Elvin Bishop CD that “Travelin' Shoes” appears on, right after the song ended.) Anyway, here's the complete playlist:

* Last year, when this program's host John Ulett (a.k.a. Uman) celebrated his 40th anniversary at KSHE, he put together a list of his forty favourite albums, and the album that this song comes from, “Souvenirs,” was included. I have to agree! KSHE Klassics Show, February 12th, 2017

This morning's was a truly frustrating listening experience.

Not the program itself, which was the schtuff that dreams are made on, nor with my Internet connection, which was fine. No, the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the firewall i installed yesterday, Comodo. At around 8:30 a.m. i tried to connect to the V.P.N. i need in order to listen to KSHE (as their audio stream is blocked outside the U.S.A.) and Comodo didn't like it. Every thirty seconds a warning would pop asking if i trusted this application. I kept clicking yes, of course, but the warning kept appearing, even when i had the "remember my answer" box checked. There was much effing and blinding by me until, at a couple of minutes past nine, i finally connected.

And Comodo didn't like my browser either -- or perhaps it just doesn't like classic rock. Those alerts started popping up every thirty seconds again and i kept clicking "allow" and still they came. I wound up listening to a good part of the show on my iPad as kept starting and restarting the laptop just to get rid of those damned alerts! (Needless to say i ultimately uninstalled Comodo and went back to Zone Alarm's firewall -- and that required yet another restart -- but at least Zone Alarm likes classic rock.)

It was not how i had hoped to spend my Sunday morning...

KSHE Klassics Show, February 5, 2017

Quotation du jour ~ J.R.R. Tolkien: Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.

I have to admit that i fail to understand KSHE's love of REO Speedwagon. I can't stand 'em, and the Canadian rock stations i used to listen to would actively deride them. Yet KSHE -- "Real Rock Radio" and "The Rock Of St Louis" -- plays them regularly. The song on this morning's show was unfortunately a lengthy live track and lead singer Kevin Cronin was especially obnoxious. It was cringeworthy for sure. But, nevermind, otherwise the show was excellent as always.

(Incidentally, according to Wikipedia, KSHE recently announced that they were going to launch a subchannel which would be a 24-hour a day version of The Klassics Show. I'd never listen to anything else! But i couldn't find anything about it on KSHE's website and host John Ulett has certainly never mentioned it. But that's Wikipedia for you!)
