This morning, i was listening from Clifton, New Jersey, ten miles west of New York City. I know my precise location this week because i found this website: https://whatismyipaddress.com/ As you know, KSHE doesn't stream their audio to Canada, so i have to use a VPN to fool them into thinking i'm listening from the States. That website tells me my location. I like it.

All of the music this morning was from the 80s -- it's an All-Eighties Weekend at KSHE. Fair enough: it's not my favourite decade, that would be the 70s, but a lot of wonderful music came out in those ten years. A lot of great music came out in every decade of the twentieth century, really. Pop music went into the toilet in the 21st century. The number one single here in Clifton, N.J. -- and apparently in the rest of the western world -- is by someone called Drake (???). Purely in the interest of research, i looked him up on YouTube ... and managed to survive about fifteen seconds of the song. Oh, ghastly. People buy this shit?

Music is alive and well in 2018 – there's some great schtuff out there, but the music industry lost the plot and you have to look very hard for it. Apart from committee-written and auto-tuned pop rubbish, what are the record companies releasing these days? Forty year-old radio broadcasts by classic rock bands (no studio expenses there); deluxe editions of 40-year old albums with a few bonus tracks that weren't worth releasing at the time; “best-of” collections by performers who already have dozens of “best-of”collections out there (but this new one includes a track that's never been released anywhere else!). Pshaw, i say.

OK, rant over. All-Eighties Weekend, eh? Normally i complain that the four hours seem to just zoom by, but not today, it definitely dragged a bit. Highlights (for me): The Hooters and Rockpile.

I'm not really sure where my VPN told KSHE's audio streaming service i was listening from today. The ads were mostly for places like Bloomingdale's, Macy's and CVS Pharmacy, so i could have been a New Yorker, but those companies have outlets throughout America, i believe. But i was definitely listening from somewhere in Trumpistan. John Ulett (the host of the show) admitted that he didn't know what countries KSHE streamed their audio to, but i know Canada isn't one of them....

It was a great edition, just look at that list, and i'm always dead happy when Rory makes an appearance. Oh, The Amboy Dukes' song is pretty stupid, but we all were back in the sixties and it (the song) was entirely tolerable.

Another four hours just whooshed by, but, as Albert Einstein said (quotation du jour # 2) Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.

I did have one brief connection drop-out but as it happened during a commercial break, i didn't miss anything important. (Drop-outs almost always seem to happen during commercial breaks when i listen to this program. I must live right.) (Why is my cat giggling over there?)

I can't say that today's edition was a spectacular one, but it was pretty darned good! A lot of schtuff i love and only one song i can't stand -- the one by the Marshall Tucker Band. (Incidentally, i learned the other morning, when i was listening to The Rock Magazine -- the other program i listen to on KSHE -- that there's no one named Marshall Tucker in that band -- they named themselves after a piano tuner.)

Well, i can't say it was a spectacular edition of the show this week, but still lots of music that i love and still the best radio program that i know of. It was a relatively painless listening experience, too; only a few very brief connection drop-outs, no system crashes, and no stampeding elephants -- jeez, i hate when they show up on Sunday morning!

*Just downloaded this from iTunes. I really like Mama's Pride and i thought i had their two albums, but last week, on The Rock Magazine (the other program i listen to on KSHE) the dj and my Facebook friend Tommy T. mentioned this, a third album. Whoa! i thought. Must have it! Checked amazon.ca and they're selling it for around $90.00. Er, nope. And amazon.com doesn't have the CD but has the album available to download -- but they don't download to Canada. EBay only has it on vinyl. Last Christmas, someone gave me an iTunes gift card, so i thought i might as well use it for the first time. Oh, it had already been redeemed! Thanks, the person who gave it to me: nice. So it cost me around $11 on my credit card. I may have to get a part-time job!
