The KSHE Klassics Show, July 23, 2017
Quotation du jour ~ John Lennon: Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted.
I installed a new router this past week, initially a daunting prospect as i'd never done it or locked one down before (my last one, the man at the shop did it for me). But, as the shop is no longer there and the man has moved away, i bought this one at Staples and i was on my own. I hesitated, afraid i'd screw something up, but as it turned out there were a couple of hiccups, but it wasn't that difficult at all, and i had a home network once more.
Around an hour before the program was to begin, my network connection kept dropping. Oh, no, i thought, it must be Sunday. It was a worrying event and i thought at first it must have something to do with the new router – blame myself for everything, that's my motto -- but somehow it sorted itself out and i was able to the entire show uninterrupted.
And what a great show it was, too. Some of my favourite songs by City Boy, Rockpile, Kim Mitchell, Robin Trower, Todd Rundgren....

The KSHE Klassics Show, July 16, 2017
Quotation du jour ~
Maya Angelou “Music
was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and
curl my back to loneliness.”
Another excellent
edition. As i've written before, if i could find a radio station that
played this kinda schtuff – classic rock that you rarely hear
anywhere else – i might never leave my nest. (But, really, John.
Two versions of “Arms Of Mary”? The Sutherland Brothers' version,
which was the original, is excellent and Chilliwack's cover version
is pretty darned good, too, but, why?)
Most radio stations
have playlists of maybe 300 songs, and so of course you hear the same
music over and over. KSHE, during its normal programming hours, is, i
admit, a little like that too. I like to hear the unexpected, and i
invariably do on Sunday mornings.
(There's an online
station, also from St Louis, St Louis Classic Rock dot com
(www.slcr.tv) i listen to
occasionally and they pride themselves on their playlist of well over
five thousand songs. But a lot of what they play is obscure –
and deserves to be!)
As a footnote, i was
once again able to listen to the show in its entirety without any of
the computery troubles that used to beset me on Sunday mornings (but
rarely at any other time). I don't think that i did anything to solve
the problems other than general maintenance, but i'm certainly not
complaining.

Quotation
du jour ~ William
Blake: Excessive sorrow laughs. Excessive joy weeps.
Gloriosky, i was able
to listen with out any computer problems at all today. I must be
living right, or have been this week anyway. Sadly, the show seemed
to just whizz by so quickly. I thought there must be at least an hour
to go when John (i can call him John, i met him) said he was heading
out the door.
This morning was a
perfect example of why this programme is the highlight of my week –
quite a few songs i love (in fact i have marked those with an
asterisk, in case you're interested) and only one that i positively
can't stand (that would be the REO Speedwagon disaster). Between
those extremes everything was perfectly acceptable. Well done, Uman!

KSHE Klassics, July 2, 2017
Quotation
du jour ~ Terry Pratchett: "It's not worth
doing something unless you are doing something that someone,
somewhere, would much rather you weren't doing."
Happy
4th of July to my American reader.
It's
the “Four On The Fourth” weekend on KSHE, their annual
Independence Day feature: listeners submit four songs that they'd
like to hear played, and, every hour they feature a set.
http://www.kshe95.com/blogs/real-rock-blog/your-4-on-the-4th-weekend-2017
I
wasn't especially looking forward to it, though, as, last year, some
of the selections were wildly inappropriate. Turns out i was worried
for nothing, though. All the songs fit in seamlessly with the theme
of the Klassics Show. In fact the only time you knew it was “Four
On The Fourth” was when we heard four songs in a row by Mama's
Pride, and i'm sure as shootin' not going to complain about that,
especially as the listener, Jim Risk, chose four of my favourite
songs of theirs! (“Blue Mist,” incidentally, was voted the #1
KSHE Klassic song of all-time, ever, in a poll a few years back.)
And here's the host of the show, John Ulett himself. I met him last year and he's as nice a man as he seems to be on the radio :-)
