The KSHE Klassics Show, Nov. 12th, 2017

Quotation du jour -- John Cleese: You realize as you grow older that almost nobody knows what they are talking about.

Well, another four hours just whizzed by.... (I was whizzing all over the USA, too, according to the ads inserted by listenlive.co: i was in NYC, i was in the San Francisco area, i was even in St Louis!) (Of all places....)

The highlight of this morning's program was definitely the song by City Boy, one of my all-time favourites, but really, there was so much wonderful music today. It was a seamless listening experience, too -- for a change: no BSODs, no connection drop-outs at all.

KSHE Klassics, August 6, 2017

Quotation du jour ~ Les Dawson: Mind you, I've always been musical... Mother used to sit me on her knee and I'd whisper, 'Mummy, Mummy, sing me a lullaby do,' and she'd say: 'Certainly my angel, my wee bundle of happiness, hold my beer while I fetch me banjo.'

It was a pretty miserable listening experience this morning, folks. Not because of the music itself, which was mostly as good as ever. No, it was my Internet connection playing silly buggers again: frequent drop-outs and i know i missed at least two songs.

It was a fairly frustrating morning altogether, cyberspatially. A couple of fairly large downloads (the usual music & porn) kept failing, as did several uploads, and even remote content in emails wasn't loading. If i ever move to St Louis, which i fully intend to do when i win a few millions in a lottery (which is unlikely to happen as i never buy tickets), one reason will be that i'll be able to listen to this show without a DSL connection.

Also, it never fails to stagger me that, after years of writing this blog, mt typing skills aren;t omproving .... Anywat, her's today's platlist:

KSHE Klassics, July 30, 2017

Quotation du jour ~ Trent Reznor: It's tough, because the president of the United States is a complete fucking moron. That's what gets me the most, that he's this vulgar, grotesque dope, everything I hate in people.

It wasn't an exceptional Klassics Show this week, although the inclusion of Rory Gallagher made it brilliant. But, hey, you find a radio station you like, you listen because they play schtuff you love and lots of it, they're bound to play shit you can't stand occasionally (Styx, REO Speedwagon, i'm talking to you) but the brilliant outweighs the banal. It's the best show on the wireless.

John Mellencamp -- Small Paradise
Styx -- Father O.S.A.
Alice Cooper -- Under My Wheels

KSHE Klassics, July 2, 2017

Quotation du jour ~ Terry Pratchett: "It's not worth doing something unless you are doing something that someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren't doing."

Happy 4th of July to my American reader.

It's the “Four On The Fourth” weekend on KSHE, their annual Independence Day feature: listeners submit four songs that they'd like to hear played, and, every hour they feature a set. http://www.kshe95.com/blogs/real-rock-blog/your-4-on-the-4th-weekend-2017

I wasn't especially looking forward to it, though, as, last year, some of the selections were wildly inappropriate. Turns out i was worried for nothing, though. All the songs fit in seamlessly with the theme of the Klassics Show. In fact the only time you knew it was “Four On The Fourth” was when we heard four songs in a row by Mama's Pride, and i'm sure as shootin' not going to complain about that, especially as the listener, Jim Risk, chose four of my favourite songs of theirs! (“Blue Mist,” incidentally, was voted the #1 KSHE Klassic song of all-time, ever, in a poll a few years back.)

And here's the host of the show, John Ulett himself. I met him last year and he's as nice a man as he seems to be on the radio :-)

KSHE Klassics Show, January 22nd, 2017

Quotation du jour ~ Christopher Hitchens: One of the beginnings of human emancipation is the ability to laugh at authority. It is an indispensable thing.

I have one major problem with listening to this program online -- and, i hasten to add, this is not a problem with the show itself, but with the outfit that streams the audio, listen.co. They delete the local St Louis ads and insert songs of their own choosing instead, often wildly inappropriate and often entirely detestable. I mean, "Play It Loud" by KISS must be one of the worst songs in the history of Western civilisation, but, lucky me, i get to hear it every week.

Also, as they don't stream their audio to Canada, i have to use a VPN to listen -- it costs me $10 a month and well worth it -- the VPN tells them i'm connecting from the USA. New York City, i think, judging by the ads they also insert, many of which seem to be aimed at affluent Manhattanites. It wasn't always thus. When i was first told about KSHE over four years ago, i didn't need a VPN and i was able to listen to St Louis ads -- which were one of the things that made me interested in the city!

The first song, the Charlie Daniels, was the first song that John Ulett (the host) played, when he started at the station forty years ago.
