KSHE Klassics, August 27, 2017

Quotation du jour: Brian Eno (in 1982) ~ I was talking to Lou Reed the other day, and he said that the first Velvet Underground record sold only 30,000 copies in its first five years. Yet, that was an enormously important record for so many people. I think everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band!

It was another case of, “whoa, where did four hours go?” again this morning, and it was a pretty painless listening experience, too. The music was excellent, of course and when i say “painless,” i mean in terms of my occasionally crappy Internet connection. It did, in fact, die once, for a couple of minutes, but that meant that i missed most of the REO Speedwagon song, so i wasn't devastated.

(I know that REO Speedwagon is revered by rock radio in the U.S., and reviled by rock radio in Canada -- not that i listen to Canadian radio any more -- and, although i've tried to appreciate 'em for the sake of my American brothers & sisters, i really, really, think that they -- to use a technical term -- suck.)

It wasn't until this past Friday that i felt back to being 100% and, amazingly, i was also in a good mood: very rare for me. KSHE Klassics, Aug. 13, 2017

Quotation du jour: Peter Hammill ~ I continue to believe, contrary to the given wisdom, that it's more interesting to have an album – or, indeed, an individual song – which has variety rather than
homogeneity.

Today's post almost didn't get written.

I was feeling a bit under the weather all week – nothing too serious, aching muscles, headaches, stomach and back pain and an overwhelming feeling of lethargy. My best friend all week was a jar of stewed prunes, and they finally started working their magic on Friday.

Sunday morning i was pretty close to being 100% except for a lingering sense of (to use a medical term) the blahs, and so, when i couldn't connect to KSHE's audio stream, i almost said, to heck with it and went back to bed. (What happened when i tried to connect was, i would get two seconds of garbled nonsense followed by a minute of nothing followed by two second of garbled nonsense etc., etc.).

I persevered, though, figuring after the crummy week i'd had, i needed this four hours of musical uplift, and so i tried to connect using a different browser and gloriosky, i connected to the stream much more quickly than usual. Wow! I think that my path for Sunday mornings in the future has been set before me.

KSHE Klassics, August 6, 2017

Quotation du jour ~ Les Dawson: Mind you, I've always been musical... Mother used to sit me on her knee and I'd whisper, 'Mummy, Mummy, sing me a lullaby do,' and she'd say: 'Certainly my angel, my wee bundle of happiness, hold my beer while I fetch me banjo.'

It was a pretty miserable listening experience this morning, folks. Not because of the music itself, which was mostly as good as ever. No, it was my Internet connection playing silly buggers again: frequent drop-outs and i know i missed at least two songs.

It was a fairly frustrating morning altogether, cyberspatially. A couple of fairly large downloads (the usual music & porn) kept failing, as did several uploads, and even remote content in emails wasn't loading. If i ever move to St Louis, which i fully intend to do when i win a few millions in a lottery (which is unlikely to happen as i never buy tickets), one reason will be that i'll be able to listen to this show without a DSL connection.

Also, it never fails to stagger me that, after years of writing this blog, mt typing skills aren;t omproving .... Anywat, her's today's platlist:

KSHE Klassics, July 30, 2017

Quotation du jour ~ Trent Reznor: It's tough, because the president of the United States is a complete fucking moron. That's what gets me the most, that he's this vulgar, grotesque dope, everything I hate in people.

It wasn't an exceptional Klassics Show this week, although the inclusion of Rory Gallagher made it brilliant. But, hey, you find a radio station you like, you listen because they play schtuff you love and lots of it, they're bound to play shit you can't stand occasionally (Styx, REO Speedwagon, i'm talking to you) but the brilliant outweighs the banal.
