Quotation du jour: Ludwig Van Beethoven ¬ Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy. Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents.
Thanks to my VPN, i was listening to the program from New York City this week -- at least, according to the ads that listenlive.co was inserting, but that's okay with me: i used to feel that NYC was my spiritual home. Until, that is, i went to St Louis and discovered the Delmar Loop area....
Anyway, to the music. I was thinking, when Uman (the show's host) played the track by The Kings -- the second song by a Canadian group in less than an hour -- that KSHE plays a disproportionate amount of music from The Great White North, and out of curiosity i looked at the website of another American station i have bookmarked. Their playlist indicated that they had played just one Canadian performer since midnight, and that was Jeff Healey (who i happen to think was over-rated). (And before any of my anonymous commentards decide to flame me, that is my OPINION. I happen to like ABBA. So what?)
After the Kings' song finished, as yet another example of GMTA, Uman himself remarked on this phenomenon, saying, with a chuckle, that "the amount of Canadian music we play on the Klassics Show is ridiculous, when you think about it." Of course, there was only one more Canuck track for the rest of the show.
Anyway, it was a great show: i'd be delighted to hear Rory Gallagher every week, that Kings' song is a classic for sure (and, indeed a klassic), plus Genesis, The Allman Brothers, Mama's Pride, Robin Trower, Steely Dan, Wishbone Ash, Billy Joel, Yes, ELO -- all performers whose music i love.
Normally, i try to head the playlist with a photo that's relevant to the first song, but i really couldn't think of one for The Beat's song, so here's a pic of Rory Gallagher, the best blues-rock guitarist of all time, ever.
