KSHE Klassics Show, April 29th, 2018

Quotation du jour ~ Stevie Wonder: Music, at its essence, is what gives us memories. And the longer a song has existed in our lives, the more memories we have of it.

Listening from Clifton, New Jersey again this week. Good choice: it's warmer there than it is here and i'm fed up with the f****ng cold. It was a seamless listening experience – no problems with connectivity at all – and, as usual, the highlight of my week.

Gosh, two songs in a row by bands from St Louis this morning: Pavlov's Dog and Mama's Pride. What a difference, though: the former was probably the worst song of the show, the latter one of the best – although there was a lot of competition: quite a few songs i love today, including one i love so much i had tears of happiness welling up when Uman played it. (I'll give you a hint: it wasn't the song by The Who.) Yes, 'twas a good 'un, and, as so often happens, the end of the program took me by surprise.

This may suggest the song that had me on the verge of being lachrymal:

Status Quo – Down Down
Jethro Tull – Cross-Eyed Mary
Sherbs – No Turning Back

KSHE Klassics Show, April 22nd, 2018

Quotation du jour: Sir Thomas Beecham: The function of music is to release us from the tyranny of conscious thought.

I started out listening from Santa Clara yet again this morning, but about an hour in there was a momentary power outage here and i had to restart the computer. When i came back on, i no longer had a secure tunnel to the U.S. Something had changed in my V.P.N. When i finally got that sorted out, i was listening from Clifton New Jersey. I'm a gadabout, what can i say?

I don't think i missed any music, though – when i realised that there was the danger of it, i fired up the iPad and listened on that, and it was really not much more than four minutes before i was able resolve the problem(s), and most of it happened during a commercial break. They were four very fraught minutes, though!

Just clock the playlist: this is what classic (and Klassic) rock is all about, and not a single duff track in the entire four hours. The other radio station i listen to, Radio Paradise, can't go for four hours without playing something i hate; KSHE's regular programming includes something i hate virtually every hour; and sometimes the Klassics show includes music i can't stand. Not today! Brilliant radio. I came dangerously close to dancing in my living room during the song by Diesel....

J. Geils Band – Looking For A Love
Electric Light Orchestra – Sweet Talkin' Woman
Canned Heat –On The Road Again

KSHE Klassics Show, April 15th, 2018

Quotation du jour: John Lennon ~ Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted.

I was listening from Santa Clara, California again this morning. Well, can you blame me? It's 19° there as i type (i looked it up); in my part of Canada it's -10° and yesterday (Saturday) we had an ice storm that lasted all day. It was so bad that i had to take a cab home from The Beer Store. (Walking there empty-handed was tough enough; returning fully-laden would have been a nightmare....)

It was a seamless listening experience and a good program, too, although sometimes i think – and this is not a complaint at all – that i'd prefer more music that i'm familiar with, rather than performers like Zebra, Cheryl Dilcher, Breathless, etc. – good as their music is – that i only hear once a year on the Klassics Show. But there was a lot of music that i love here, too. So, until i start my own radio station, i'm perfectly happy to listen to this every Sunday.

Blind Faith – Sea Of Joy
Eric Clapton – Mainline Florida
Zebra – Who's Behind The Door?
Frankie & The Knockouts – Running Into The Night
Steve Walsh – Every Step Of The Way
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Crosstown Traffic
Les Dudek – City Magic
Kenny Loggins – Easy Driver
Michael Stanley – Rosewood Bitters
April Wine – I Like To Rock
Thin Lizzy – Romeo And The Lonely Girl
Breathless – Takin' It Back
Uriah Heep – Look At Yourself
The Who – Dr Jimmy
.38 Special – Rock And Roll Strategy
Charlie – She Loves To Be In Love
The Babys – California
The Band – Up On Cripple Creek
Traffic – The Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys
Foghat – My Babe

Poco – You Better Think Twice
Yes – Starship Trooper
Prism – Hello
Henry Gross – One More Tomorrow
Loverboy – Lucky Ones
Vinegar Joe – Never Met A Dog
Joe Walsh – Turn To Stone
Pure Prairie League – Two Lane Highway
Heart – Even It Up

Here's what we played at world headquarters this week:

Supertramp – Crisis? What Crisis?
Sharon Shannon – Each Little Thing
Dick Gaughan – The Definitive Collection

KSHE Klassics Show, April 8th, 2018

Quotation du jour ~ Steve Martin: Talking about music is like dancing about architecture.

According to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ i was listening from Santa Clara, California this morning. I must like that place: i've listened from there before. (And there's what looks like a good pub there: The Yard House.)

Last week, i was complimenting Hubbard Radio – who bought KSHE a couple of months ago – for improving the audio stream listeners' experience. So i suppose that the blame for today's miserable experience must lie with my ISP. I had frequent drop-outs, rebooting both the router and the modem and restarting the computer was no help. I'm pretty sure i missed at least one song, and missed a good chunk of several others. It wasn't until the final hour that my connection stabilised. (On the whole, i'm very happy to be with an independent provider, but the big disadvantage – in fact the only disadvantage: no 24-hour tech support).

Speaking of Hubbard Radio, i was wondering if they would allow KSHE's audio stream into Canada, so i tried to connect to the stream without connecting to my VPN. Nope. I wonder why, when i've been able to connect from The Philippines and Norway? Maybe they're still pissed off about the War Of 1812....

As to the music, it was hardly a classic Klassics Show, but it's still the best radio program that i know of, and the highlight of my week.

Heart – Kick It Out
Rush – Roll The Bones
Arlo Guthrie – Coming In To Los Angeles
Steely Dan – Aja

KSHE Sunday Klassics Show, April 1st, 2018

Quotation du jour ~ Abraham Maslow: A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What one can be, one must be.

I was listening from Raleigh, North Carolina this morning and noticed a major change to the way KSHE streams their audio. Listenlive.co is out and the stream now comes from https://live.kshe95.com/listen/ This is great news – i was fed up with listenlive and it looks like Hubbard Radio was, too. Apart from the fact that the local ads are no longer deleted, as i mentioned last week, starting this week the name of the song that's now playing pops up in the bottom right corner of the screen. This is especially useful for me if i'm not too sure what the song is. Hurrah for Hubbard!

This may be purely coincidental, of course, but i had, for the first time ever, i think, a 100% uninterrupted stream. Not one single drop-out. And it was a great show: any program that plays Rory Gallagher is in my good books, for sure, and there was a lot of music i love. In fact there was only one song i actively disliked -- well, i hate Aerosmith, to be honest. (Has anyone seen Jeff Beck's “Live At The Hollywood Bowl” DVD? In which guest vocalist Steven Tyler makes an utter arse of himself? It's pretty good apart from that.)

But, wow, didn't the end of the show sneak up on me: i thought there was a good hour left to go, but it was over. Until next week.
